It follows from a court document. The FBI says Papadopoulos pleaded guilty on October 5th.

According to the document, on January 27th 2017, Papadopoulos gave false testimony and omitted essential facts regarding his interaction with foreigners during the campaign, including Russian citizens.

For example, the document says that “Papadopoulos falsely told the FBI that he was not part of the Trump campaign when a person described as an ‘overseas professor’ told him that Russians possessed ‘dirt’ on then-candidate Hillary Clinton in the form of ‘thousands of emails.'”
