Russian president Vladimir Putin has classified as State Secret the Ministry of Defense’s data about military losses at “peace time, during special operations”. The corresponding decree of the Russian president was published on the official legal information website.
Previously only military losses at war time were classified as State Secret.
In addition, Putin classified as State Secret the information about people being studied by Russian intelligence, counter-intelligence and operational services for the purpose of “cooperation, on a confidential basis.” Previously only data about individuals who has provided such assistance was classified.
The maximum penalty for the disclosure of state secrets is up to 7 years in prison.
