Over the past year more than 2,500 children were killed in Russia, almost 10,000 children are missing, said Pavel Astakhov, the Presidential Commissioner of Children’s Rights.
“About 100 thousand children become victims of criminal attacks. 9,090 children are missing in 2014. If we talk about children killed or died, there is a tendency for increasing the number, and it’s growing from year to year. 2553 children were killed last year … This is an excessive number even for our large country,”- said Astakhov on Tuesday at the meeting of the President’s Coordinating Council, discussing the national strategy “Action for Children”.
According to him, an important role in search for missing children play volunteers. He also said that by 2016 there will be a local division of the National Centre for the search for missing children in every region of Russia.
