Alexey Titarenko, the captain of MiG-29 crashed near Astrakhan, said that the crash that took place not far from Ashuluk was caused by an explosion on the left side of the machine.
– After finishing the training shooting we were making the final approach when there was an explosion on the left side. I got blinded, couldn’t see a thing. Blindly grabbed the handle and triggered the ejection seat – said the pilot.
According to him, it was impossible to continue piloting the fighter and avoid the crash.

– Because of the explosion I hit my head. It was so strong that I got a dent on the helmet and its light screen was destroyed. I couldn’t determine the exact cause of the explosion, it was on the left side of the cabin, then so it’s either the canopy destruction, or the ammunition detonation, but it wasn’t on board by then, – said Titarenko.
