The Russian base in Syria will be protected, among other things, by anti-aircraft missile and gun complexes “Carapace-C1” and medium-range air defense missile systems “Buk-M2E”. It was reported to “Interfax-AVN” by a military-diplomatic source commenting on the statement of the Commander in Chief Viktor Bondarev he made during a video conference about moving anti-aircraft missile systems to Syria.

“In Syria, with the participation of Russia, the Joint Air Defense System was deployed, which ensures the protection of all military and civilian strategic objects. That includes the airport in Latakia where Russian aviation group is based,” – a spokesman said.

He recalled that the united air defense system of Syria also consists of modernized air defense systems “Wasp”, S-125 “Pechora-2M”, S-200 and other systems.

“The complex of these weapons allows to ensure the protection of the object, not only from air attacks, but also against missile attacks. This system is constructed as an analogy to the Israeli “Iron Dome”, “- the source said.
