Iran started withdrawing troops from Syria

According to news agency Bloomberg, Iran started withdrawing its elite soldiers of the Revolutionary Guards from the war zone in Syria, explaining this move by severe losses.

According to the US and Western sources quoted by Bloomberg, after losses among the fighters, commanders, including IRGC generals, during the fighting in Syria, Iran decided to reduce its military presence in the conflict zone.

In October, US officials have cited the data showing that from 2,000 to 7,000 Iranian guards fight in Syria. At the moment, the number of Iranians who are fighting on the side of the Syrian government troops is less than 700 people. The rest have already come back to their homeland.

Earlier, the Iranian opposition reported that Major General Qasem Soleimani, commander of the division “Al-Quds”, and one of the heads of operations in Syria was wounded near Aleppo.

In addition, there were reports of low morale among Iranian soldiers, caused by great losses. Several generals even refused to fight in Syria, and went under the tribunal.
