The State Duma obliged to register toy helicopters and quadcopters

The State Duma obliges owners to register any drones weighing more than 250 grams (8.8 oz – RRT). In Deputies’ opinion, the new law creates a basis for the establishment of a legislative framework for the use of unmanned aircrafts in Russia – reports TASS.

The document obliges to register all drones, except for those with maximum takeoff weight of 0.25 kilograms, or less. This will be true even for toy helicopters and quadcopters.

“If it is a toy (helicopter), but weighing more than 250 grams, then the process of registration will be simplified,” – said the head of the Duma Committee on Transport Eugene Moscowitchev, and noted that dealing with the registration could be done by a private company, or by public organization.

The MP stressed that registration is required because a drone can be “dangerous in the matter of terrorist attacks”.

“Since there is no existing data on this so far, we set the bar at 250 grams by now, we’ll see and analyze. If it appears that the bar is too low, and we need to make it 1 kilogram, then we will make corrections”, – said the Moscowitchev.
