Turchynov announced test launches of Ukrainian missiles

According to an interview of the National Security and Defense Council Secretary (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov to “Interfax-Ukraine”, in the near future test launches of missiles produced by Ukrainian companies will be performed, after the termination of cooperation with Russian suppliers of components.

He refused to provide detailed information on missiles, but added that Ukraine “is strengthening its defense without violating any of its international obligations”.

Turchynov called the recovery of the rocket industry a priority. “On the one hand, we need to develop as a space country, producing a high-tech spacecrafts, but we also need to restore the whole line of combat missiles that will protect the country,” – said the head of the National Security Council.

According to him, the restoration of the rocket industry was complicated by the fact that earlier Ukrainian enterprises have worked closely with Russian ones. Turchynov said that Ukrainian scientists and engineers have been able to ensure the production of all the necessary components that were produced in cooperation with Russia before. This allows Ukraine to “not only show missiles at exhibitions, but also use them in combat”, concluded Turchynov.

In 1993 Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement on military-technical cooperation, which also provided cooperation in the development and production of military products. In May 2015, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that Kiev has decided to break the agreement because of what happened in the Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
