Maria Sharapova failed doping test

Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova stated at a special press conference that her latest doping test results were positive. She was told so by the ITF. The doping sample of Sharapova contained meldonium, that was banned starting from January 1, 2016.

“Thank you for coming. I want to tell you that a few days ago I received a letter from the ITF, which has notified of a positive doping sample. I do not read it,” – said Sharapova at a press conference.

The athlete has not played since January 26 after losing to Serena Williams in a quarter finals of Australian Open.
