European Parliament is ready to introduce the “Savchenko list”, similar to the “Magnitsky list”

European MPs intend to ask the supreme representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to initiate the “Savchenko list”, which would provide the imposition of personal sanctions on Russian officials responsible for unlawful confinement of the detained Ukrainian pilot.

This was told on Monday, March 7, by a member of the European Parliament Petras Auštrevičius in his interview with Deutsche Welle.

“The European Parliament has repeatedly raised the issue of creating the “list of Savchenko”. I think we have reached that moment when we need to do something. I will talk to my colleagues. At least, we will send another letter to the representative of the supreme EU for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, and ask to initiate the “Savchenko list”. It could happen tomorrow,” – said the politician.

Auštrevičius also said that MEPs “demonstrate solidarity with Savchenko, and negative attitude towards Russian government, that humiliates and tortures her”. He also urged everyone to join a petition demanding the release of the Ukrainian military officer, illegally detained by Russian authorities.

Nadiya Savchenko is held in custody in Russian jail after being kidnapped in the summer of 2014 in Luhansk region. Russian prosecutors accuse her of complicity in the murder of two journalists of VGTRK, mortally wounded in June last year during the Russian aggression in the Donbas.
