Putin told Obama that Savchenko can not be released

Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation with the US President Barack Obama said that the request for the release of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko is an interference in the judicial process, and can not be fulfilled. This was announced by Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“President has repeatedly given explanations on this matter to foreign counterparts, and it was clearly explained that it is a trial, and any external interference in the jurisdiction of our courts is unacceptable, it is impossible,” – Peskov said, responding to questions of journalists.

“It is impossible to give any evaluations, or anything else before the completion of the trial, and before sentencing,” – said the spokesman.

The day before the US Embassy’s press secretary in Moscow William Stevens told Interfax that during a telephone conversation with Putin on March 14, Obama called on his counterpart “to release the detained pilot and MP Savchenko in accordance with the Minsk agreement on the need to release all illegally detained persons”.
