The US leadership is aimed at preserving the territorial integrity of Ukraine, said US Secretary of State John Kerry after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The US is clearly focused on the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea. Our position is very clear. Minsk agreement must be immediately and fully implemented. We have discussed a general cease-fire, and how to involve observers, and OSCE. We also discussed how to hold the elections in the Donbass – all these key steps,” – said Kerry, as stated on the official website of the US State Department.

Earlier, Kerry also said that the White House is ready to lift the restrictive measures against Russia only in case of implementation of the Minsk agreements. In particular, he mentioned the return of control over Ukrainian border with Russia.

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow and Washington agree that there is no alternative to the implementation of the Minsk agreements as the way to resolve the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine.
