USA used strategic bomber B-52 against ISIS for the first time

US Air Force strategic bomber B-52 performed his first attack against ISIS targets in northern Iraq.

This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the official representative of the US Armed Forces Central Command, Colonel Steve Warren.

During a teleconference from Baghdad at a briefing at the Pentagon, he told reporters that on Monday one of the B-52 “performed the first combat mission to destroy an ISIS armory in the town of Qayyara”, located in the north of Iraq.

According to him, airstrikes continued on Tuesday and Wednesday. Warren noted that strategic bombers B-52 will be used for performing high-precision air strikes on the most important ISIS objects in Iraq and Syria.

Earlier it was reported that Danish parliament approved the country’s participation in the bombing of the ISIS in Syria.

BACKGROUND. US B-52 bombers are deployed to the Middle East for the first time since 1991, when they were involved in “Desert Storm” operation. According to the Pentagon, they replaced American strategic bombers B1-B, used before for air strikes on the ISIS, but were withdrawn in January from Qatar to the continental United States for modernization.
