The USA is interested in development and production of rocket engines together with Ukraine in order to replace Russian engines.
This was said by the head of the National Space Agency of Ukraine (GKAU) Lubomir Szabados at a press conference, commenting on the results of the visit of Ukrainian delegation to the United States on May 23-27.
“We offered our capabilities on implementing of joint development for the production of liquid-propellant rocket engines that are currently purchased in Russia. Our partners understand that this task is quite complex, but we can handle it, and the discussion will take place between professional experts,” Szabados said.
He also added that during the talks the sides should discuss the terms of development, testing, and funding.
“The US experts provided the following information: ‘We are interested to have alternative suppliers of engines. We understand that this project can not be implemented tomorrow.’ The Ukrainian side voiced the position of Yuzhnoye Design Office on the conditions for successful cooperation, including the cost and the time frame,” he said, adding that the next stage of negotiations between the parties will happen in November in Kiev.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the negotiation took place last week between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the State Space Agency of Ukraine (GKAU) about deepening the cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, and implementation of joint projects in the space area.
