Baltic countries and Poland asked NATO to strengthen air defence in their territories

As it was reported by TASS, the Baltic countries and Poland speak in favor of NATO to strengthen air defence in their territories. The main reason for their concern is Russia.

“The protection of our airspace is of paramount importance,” the head of the Estonian Defence Forces Lieutenant-General Riho Terras said.

“We discuss creating a regional air defence system of medium-range together with Latvia, Estonia, and Poland,” the Lithuanian Defence Minister Juozas Olekas said.

At the same time, Moscow repeatedly stated it had no aggressive plans.

“Russia will never attack any NATO member country. We have no plans of this kind,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said recently.

Meanwhile, the countries of Southern Europe, that try to cope with the problem of refugees, are unlikely to be happy with plans to allocate additional funds to strengthen the defences an the eastern border of NATO.
