The deputy chairman of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev said that the Russian side offered Ukraine a “good” price for gas in the third quarter.
Earlier, Kiev refused to resume purchases of Russian gas at the proposed price.
Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev, responding to journalists’ questions about the contract price for gas for Ukraine develops in the third quarter, said: “I myself would’ve bought it for this price”, TASS reports.
“All Ukraine needs to do is to make certain actions,” Medvedev said, without specifying whether Naftogaz (the national oil and gas company of Ukraine – RRT) addressed to Gazprom with a request of the gas purchase.
Ukraine refused to buy Russian gas in favor of European in November 2015. Kiev claims that importing gas through the reverse scheme is cheaper than buying directly from Russia. Nevertheless, in June Naftogaz has sent a letter to Gazprom to resume delivery.
Energy Minister of Russia Alexander Novak offered Naftogaz to buy gas from Russia in the third quarter at $177 per 1 thousand cubic meters, and called the price “comfortable”, and reflecting the market conditions.
However, Ukraine refused to buy gas from Russia at the price announced by Novak. As the business development director of Naftogaz Yuri Vitrenko noted on Facebook, the cost of the European gas in July was “less than $173”.
“So, in such circumstances we won’t buy gas from Gazprom at all. We will buy all the necessary gas on the European market. Fortunately, we don’t have any problems with this,” the top manager of Naftogaz said.
