Helicopter that was shot down in Syria was Russian Mi-35M


A video of shooting down of a Russian helicopter in Syria was published on Youtube.

The video clearly shows a helicopter Mi-35M (identifiable by non-retractable landing gear), that was hit in the tail boom, with subsequent transition into an uncontrolled spin, and fall. Before it was hit, the helicopter was shooting, performing a combat mission. Another helicopter of the same type can be seen on the video.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported on destroying of a Syrian Mi-25 (export version of the Mi-24) with a Russian crew. According to sources of Lenta.ru, the machine that was hit was a Mi-35M, driven by a crew of a pilot Colonel Ryafagat Khabibullin (commander of the 55th special regiment of Army Aviation), and pilot Lieutenant Eugeny Dolgin.

Their bodies were evacuated from the crash site, and delivered to the Russian base in the morning of July 9th.
