Mutko announced the dismissal of Russian soccer team


Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko announced the dismissal of the national soccer team on Sunday, July 17.

“The national team is no more, it was dismissed,” Mutko said.

The Minister also noted that they are currently looking for a new coach for the national team, since Leonid Slutsky decided to concentrate on his job at CSKA. Whoever comes to his place will need to re-form the team.

Earlier, on July 17 in the Russian presidential administration handed the Ministry of Sport a petition for the dismissal of the Russian national team.

A petition, authored by Artem Hasanov, states the need to dismiss the national soccer team of Russia as it “did not meet expectations”; to remove the limit on foreign players; to introduce a cap for salaries; and to ensure the development of children’s sports.

At the time of publication, the petition was supported by 931,000 people.
