NATO military base near the city of Izmir in the west of Turkey caught fire.
The fire started in the forest, and then spread to the territory of the military facility. The flames spread very quickly, the fire has already covered a few dozen hectares.
Firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire from the air: helicopters dumped tons of water. The fiery glow can be seen at a distance of hundreds of kilometers. The police do not rule out that it was an arson, targeted against the base of the North Atlantic alliance.
According to preliminary reports, the fire started in a wooded area near the air base, located at 320 kilometers to the south-west of Istanbul. As it was reported, one house was damaged, but is not related to the military base of NATO.
