Turkey refused to let Russia use Incirlik air base

Aircraft of Russian Air Force can not be placed at the Incirlik air base, because it is used by NATO forces. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Numan Kurtulmuş.

“There is no way Russia can use Incirlik, since this is a base of NATO… Russia is not a NATO member, therefore the use of the base by Russians is not possible,” he said.

Some time ago, the head of the Turkish government Binali Yildirim said about a possibility of the presence of the Russian Federation on Incirlik base. He also added that there was no request from Moscow.

Currently, Incirlik is used by the UK, Germany, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Using the base by the U.S. military is temporarily prohibited.
