In Georgia, the lawyers refused to work with the Russian company Yandex, because on Yandex.Maps Abkhazia and South Ossetia were shown as independent countries.

This was reported by blogger and former press secretary of the Embassy of Georgia in Ukraine Bacho Korchilava on his Facebook.

“Emerging of Yandex has immediately caused a scandal, as their maps were showing Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries. Of course, all legal and governmental mechanisms started working against the Russian company,” he wrote.

After the scandal, the Russians fixed their maps for IP addresses in Georgia and Ukraine, but it did not help, and they were forced to seek for help of the largest Georgian law firm.

However, the company refused to provide services, saying it is not going to help people who do not recognize the territorial integrity of the country. They also urged all their colleagues to do the same.

“Of course, we are always happy to provide legal aid to everyone who needs it, but not in this particular case. The fact is that the maps provided by Yandex violate Georgia’s internationally recognized borders forces us to refuse to provide our services to Yandex. We call upon all Georgian colleagues to join our protest,” said in the company.
