Rocket Vega with Ukrainian engine brought Google satellites into orbit

Rocket “Vega” with Ukrainian engine launched from Kourou space port in French Guiana, and brought into orbit 4 SkySat satellites of operator Terra Bella, owned by Google.

It was reported by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The launch took place at 04:43 Moscow time. Apart from SkySat devices, the rocket put into orbit the first Peruvian commercial satellite PeruSAT-1. The total mass of SkySat satellites, which separated from the carrier 40 minutes after launch, was 440 kilograms. The weight of PeruSAT-1 was 430 kilograms, it separated from the rocket 62 minutes after the start.

Light carrier “Vega” was created by ESA and the Italian Space Agency. It reached 30 meters high, and is able to put a payload of up to 2,500 kilograms into orbit. The launch was the seventh, and the first in 2016.

As it was reported by Space Agency of Ukraine, for the fourth stage of Vega Ukraine has built a sustainer engine RD-843. The unit was designed in Yuzhnoye Design Office, and built in Yuzhmash, located in the city of Dnipro.
