Ukraine recognized Russian State Duma illegitimate

The reason is elections held in the occupied Crimean Peninsula.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian parliament – RRT) adopted a resolution on the recognition of illegitimacy of elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, their results and legal consequences, and Duma’s composition, powers, and acts.

Ukrainian Parliament explained the decision by the fact that, given the illegality of the elections to the State Duma on the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the elections to the State Duma is a violation of the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, the basic norms and principles of international law, the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final act, the Budapest memorandum of 1994, the UN General Assembly resolution on Ukraine‘s territorial integrity #68/262 dated March 27, 2014, and other international legal acts.

In addition, the Parliament addressed the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly, the parliaments of other countries, international parliamentary assemblies and organizations to not recognize the legitimacy of the elections in the State Duma of Russia.
