Head of Russian Orthodox Church signed petition on complete ban of abortion in Russia

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill signed a petition calling for a complete ban of abortion in Russia, reports RIA Novosti with reference to the press secretary of the Russian Orthodox Church, priest Alexander Volkov.

The text demands to grant a fetus the status of a human being from the moment of conception, so its life, health, and well-being are protected by the law.

Also, it is said in the appeal about the need to ban contraceptives with abortifacient action, as well as assisted reproductive technologies, as their “essential” component is “humiliation of human dignity, and killing of children in the early stages of embryonic development.”

It is noted that the signatures under the petition are collected by all-Russian public movement “For Life” and the movement “Orthodox volunteers.”

In April, it was reported about the plans of the Ministry of Health to strengthen control over the abortion.
