RussiaToday will receive $20 million for launching TV channel in French

TV channel RussiaToday will receive additional 1.22 billion rubles (approx. $20 million – RRT) for “creation, development, maintenance and distribution of a television channel in French”.

Thus, the amount of the RT grants for next year increased to 18.74 billion rubles ($300 million – RRT). This is reflected in the draft federal budget for 2017. Funding increase comes at the initiative of the government; the amendment was made to the second reading of the budget.

Previously, an increase in funding should have been received only by First Channel, NTV, TV and Radio Company “Petersburg”, “Carousel”, and “TV Center”. The total increase of the funding for all these TV channels combined had increased by 1.1 billion rubles (approx. $18 million – RRT), e.g. less than the additional subsidy for the RT.
