EU extends sanctions against Russia for another 6 months


At a summit in Brussels, leaders of the EU countries agreed on the extension of restrictive measures against Russia for six months. The official announcement will follow in a few days.

According to sources in diplomatic circles, the decision was made on Thursday, December 15, by the participants of the EU leaders summit in Brussels. Officially, this decision will be announced within a few days. Restrictive measures will be valid from February 1 to July 31, 2017.

Economic sanctions of the European Union against Moscow were introduced in the summer of 2014 in connection with its actions destabilizing the situation in the east of Ukraine. Every six months, the European Union decides to extend the restrictive measures. Ii is emphasized in Brussels that they may be canceled if Russia complies with Minsk Protocol.
