Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov was seriously injured in Ankara as a result of an armed attack on Monday. He died of the wounds.
The incident took place in the premises of the Modern Art Gallery in the Turkish capital. According to eyewitnesses, the armed man, who had documents of a policeman, opened fire on the ambassador, who was delivering a speech at the opening of the photo exhibition “Russia with Turks’ eyes”. The ambassador fell after being shot.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova confirmed that Karlov was shot and killed. She also said that Moscow considers the incident as a terrorist attack.
The EU expresses its condolences to the Russian side, and condemns the actions of the shooter. This was reported by the head of the European diplomacy Federica Mogherini.
UN joined the condolences.
