According to the press secretary of the regional Ministry of Health Tatyana Lebedeva, 97 people got poisoned after drinking bath concentrate “Hawthorn” in Irkutsk, 58 of them died.
According to Lebedeva, 34 people died in hospital, while the rest “were taken to the forensic medical examination bureau of ritual services.”
38 people remain in the hospitals. One was discharged.
A state of emergency was declared in the Irkutsk region in connection with the mass poisoning with “Hawthorn” lotion. As the expertise has shown, the substance contained methanol instead of ethanol.
The investigation discovered two illegal production facilities making “Hawthorn”. Seven people have been detained.
December 20 was declared a day of mourning in the Irkutsk region.
