FBI and DHS published report on Russian cyber attacks

The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a joint report on cyber attacks, which, according to authorities, were organized by Russian intelligence, and targeted American government, political, and private sector entities.

The text of the report is available on the website of United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team.

According to the report, the attacks were targeted at critical infrastructure facilities, government agencies, political organizations, research institutes and universities, and corporations; their goal was data theft.

The report says about the attacks on an American political party, performed in 2015-2016 by two Russian hacker groups, which are referred to as APT28 and APT29.

Those were cyber attacks on the National Committee of the Democratic Party, which became known in the summer of 2016. Media and companies involved in information security repeatedly wrote that the committee was attacked by two independent groups; one of them (Fancy Bear, one of the names of APT28) was mentioned as related to the GRU, the other one (Cozy Bear, one of the names of APT29) – with FSB.
