Repair of Russia’s only air carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will cost $700 million


As reported by TASS, citing a source in the defense industry, modernization and repair of Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov will cost 40 billion rubles (over $700 million – RRT).

It was reported that the work will begin in September at the repair plant near Murmansk. There is no official confirmation for this information so far.

“In September Zvezdochka plant will sign a contract with the Navy for the second stage of the repair and modernization of Admiral Kuznetsov. The price of the deal has already been agreed upon: it is almost 40 billion rubles. The works will begin shortly after the signing at the 35th shipyard in Roslyakovo near Murmansk,” the source said.

It is planned that repairs will be completed in the IV quarter of 2020, that is, the duration of the work will be three full years and another two to three months.

During this time, the whole electro-mechanical part will be repaired, including the main power system. The runway will also be modernized.
