US Department of State ruled out lifting sanctions from Russia

According to the press release of the U.S. State Department, during his talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stressed the need for progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements on Ukraine.

“On Ukraine, Secretary Tillerson stressed the need for progress toward full implementation of the Minsk agreements,” the message says.

The State Department stresses that the matter of lifting sanctions against Russia is not yet relevant.

Sanctions on Russia will remain in place until Moscow reverses the actions that triggered them,” the press release said.

At a press conference that followed the talks in Washington Sergei Lavrov said that the matter of sanctions was not raised neither at the meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, nor at the talks with Tillerson.

“We do not discuss sanctions. It’s not our problem. These are unilateral actions that have been taken against us,” Lavrov said.
