Soon after some Russian internet providers started blocking google.ru, the decision was cancelled, and the domain was removed from the list of domains that providers are supposed to block.
In fact, Google.ru was in the list only for a few hours, but some large providers like Akado and TTK managed to start blocking it and it affected their clients.
The Russian domain Google.ru has been on the list of banned sites since 2016, but until June 22th this year it didn’t get to the providers.
Roskomnadzor said that “Google had a redirect from the site of the bookmaker company, so the operators began to block it. Google has already removed the redirect, and the problem was quickly resolved.”
From the explanation it is not clear why the domain was blocked only on June 22th this year, and not in 2016, when it was included into the register of prohibited sites by the court’s decision.
