Russia asks USA to allow shipment of Sukhoi SuperJet 100 to Iran


The manufacturer of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCA), sent a request to the Office for Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury to approve the shipments to Iran.

“The SCA application is pending at OFAC. The term of its consideration is individual for each case, and is not regulated by this structure,” a representative of the company said.

In early August, the United Aircraft Construction Company (UAC), which the SCA is a part of, responded to the request of that the relevant package of documents is in the process of preparation. The holding explained that the approval of OFAC is necessary because of SSJ100 aircraft contains American components.

In February 2017, Russian Minister of Energy, co-chairman of the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental commission, Alexander Novak, announced Iran‘s readiness to purchase 12 SSJ100 aircraft in the near future.

At the end of last year, Airbus and Boeing agreed with Tehran on the delivery of large quantities of passenger aircraft. The manufacturers will deliver 180 aircraft, the overall contracts amount was estimated at $34.6 billion.
