U.S. Embassy in Russia suspends issuing nonimmigrant visas

The U.S. diplomatic mission in Russia said that starting from August 23th this year it ceases issuing of nonimmigrant visas all across Russia.

Starting from September 1st, the issuance of permits to enter the United States will resume in Moscow, but in all other U.S. consulates in Russia the procedure for issuing visas will be suspended for an indefinite period.

“Previously scheduled interviews are canceled. Those who have already applied for a U.S. visa will be informed about how they can re-schedule their interview,” the diplomatic mission said.

It was indicated by American diplomats that the reason for this step was the decision of the Russian Federation to reduce the number of employees of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Russia after another tightening of anti-Russian sanctions.
