Volker: There’s no difference between Donbas and Crimea, in both cases it’s aggression and occupation

U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker said that the USA considers Russia’s actions both in the Crimea and in the Donbas as aggression and occupation.

He said this during his interview with the TV channel “Dozhd” (“The Rain” – RRT).

“For the U.S. government, there is no difference between the Donbas and the Crimea. In both cases it is illegal aggression, occupation. In the case of the Crimea, Russia announced an annexation, which we did not recognize, and will never recognize. These are equally horrible situations,” Volker said.

On July 7th, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson appointed the former U.S. ambassador to NATO Volker a special representative for Ukraine. He will coordinate the efforts of the State Department to resolve the conflict in the country.

Volker is an expert in international relations. Since 1986, he worked as an analyst in the CIA, since 1988 – in the U.S. Department of State. In 1998, Volcker became the first secretary of the American mission to NATO, in 2005 – Deputy Assistant of the Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, and in 2008-2009 he was the U.S. ambassador to NATO.

In recent years, Volker worked at the McCain International Republican Institute.
