Fire at Russia’s main tank factory Uralvagonzavod


In the city of Nizhny Tagil fire fighters were called to the most important defense enterprise of Russia, Uralvagonzavod. The fire was assigned an advanced level of severity.

On August 27th at about 9:30 pm local time, a fire alarm triggered at the factory. After arriving at the site, firefighters discovered a fire in paint and varnish shop #310.

“The fire was assigned an advanced level of severity, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations started their work,” said a source in law enforcement services of the city. “There are nine units of rescue equipment on the site. There is no information about the victims”.

The media was unable to receive a comment in the press service of the regional division of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Meanwhile, the official website says: “Fire-rescue units are taking measures to eliminate the fire at one of the industrial enterprises of Nizhny Tagil. The fire fighting headquarters has been deployed on site. Forces and means are sufficient.”

Uralvagonzavod is the largest Soviet and Russian corporation that designs and manufactures military equipment and railway cars. All domestic tanks were built at the enterprise, ranging from T-34 to the newest “Armata”.
