Afghanistan accuses Russia of supporting Taliban

The Afghan authorities called on Russia to stop supporting the Taliban, as its militants become more active throughout the country after receiving Russian weapons.

It was noted that the government military found Russian-made weapons owned by the members of the Taliban terrorist organization after fighting in the northern province of Farah.

The commander of the 207 Afghan Army Corps believes that it was thanks to Russian support that the insurgents almost managed to capture the provincial capital for the third time in a year.

In turn, U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis believes that direct evidence of supporting of Taliban by Russia would mean a violation of international law.

“Somebody is supplying a bunch of Russian-type weapons, including heavy machine guns and a small number of surface-to-surface missiles,” he said.
