Russian ambassador to UN urges USA and South Korea to refrain from joint military exercises

Russian ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said that the planned exercises will only contribute to strengthening tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Nebenzia also urged North Korea to stop missile and nuclear tests.

“We urge all involved parties to stop the escalation of tension,” the diplomat said, speaking at the UN Security Council. “It is necessary to stop and carefully weigh the consequences of our steps.”

On Wednesday, North Korea announced a successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) of a new type, capable of reaching all of the U.S. mainland, including Washington.
