The assembly scheme of the German assault rifle “Sturmgewehr 44” (StG.44) from the times of the World War II was placed at the base of the monument to Mikhail Kalashnikov, opened on September 19th in Moscow.

Historian Yuri Pasholok wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“Don’t they dare saying that this was by mistake. Someone needs to be beaten for this, painfully and publicly,” commented Pasholok.

The sculpture composition, which caused numerous controversies right after its opening, was designed by People’s Artist of Russia Salavat Shcherbakov. The monument in the honor of arms maker Mikhail Kalashnikov was installed in the park at the intersection of Sadovaya-Karetnaya and Dolgorukovskaya streets in Moscow. This is an eight-meter figure of the designer with an AK-47 assault rifle in his hands.

The monument was installed by the Russian Military History Society with the support of the Moscow City Duma and the Rostekh corporation. The Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky called the Kalashnikov rifle “the cultural brand of Russia” at the ceremony of the opening of the monument.
